Chapter 6 Question 1

Barack Obama opposes to the idea of same sex marriage but supports civil rights and equality for homosexual couples, I believe that this is just a strategy Obama is using to obtain the votes from the homosexual community. With this approach on the idea of same-sex couples he is portraying that he does not mind the fact that there will always be same-sex couples and he believes they should have the same rights as every other human, but he does not believe that they should be able to have the sacred bondage of marriage.  Same-sex marriage is a highly controversial topic that is based off the ideas of Christianity, while there should be this “separation between church and state” most of the arguing facts on same sex marriage is based off ideas from the bible. I feel that Obama would have trouble responding to Nava and Dawidoff's writings because they just talk about the perks that come along with marriage and explain that same-sex couples want the right to marry so they can share the same type of bond. Obama would most likely just talk about the idea and promoting same-sex couples to fight for equality but he personally would not do anything for the movement towards same sex marriage.
